The Blackfalds Bulldogs are pleased to announce the signing of 2005-born forward, Joey Melo.
The Georgetown, Ontario product played with the Whitecourt Wolverines in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) last season where he scored 22 goals and 43 points in 56 games played. The five-foot-ten, 180-pound forward already has an NCAA Division I Commitment to the University of Alaska Anchorage. In 16 playoff games with the Wolverines, Melo posted 5 goals and 13 points.
Bulldogs’ Director of Hockey Operations, Al Parada, said, “We are very lucky to get a player like Joey who is highly skilled and won the rookie of the year last season in the AJHL.”
Parada continued, “Joey is a player who can play in all situations and is very good in the face-off dot as well. He plays a solid 200’ game and has the ability to be an elite offensive player as well.”
Melo stated, “I’m super excited to get a chance to join a first-class organization like the Bulldogs next season. I can’t wait to get down there and get started in September.”
Parada added, “He makes our team stronger down the middle and is looking to lead by example this coming season with his great work ethic and leadership skills. I am really looking forward to seeing Joey in a Bulldogs uniform this year.”
