The Blackfalds Bulldogs are proud to announce the commitment of Noah Mertz to play NCAA Division I hockey at Army West Point.Mertz joined the Bulldogs partway through last season, making his debut on December 13th, 2024. Noah played in 30 games for the remainder of the season, recording 4 goals and 13 assists for 17 points.
The 2005-born Defenseman is excited to continue his hockey journey for the Army Black Knights. Mertz said, “I’m extremely excited to be joining the West Point team next year. It’s an extremely prestigious school and hockey program, so when they showed interest, it was a no-brainer.”
The excitement for Mertz is felt through the entire Bulldogs organization. Bulldogs President of Hockey Operations, Doug Quinn, said, “The Bulldogs organization is excited to hear of Noah’s commitment to Army. Noah joined our team last year before Christmas and has been a significant contributor to our team’s success ever since. Noah’s development and growth have him being recognized as an All-Star and one of the best defensemen in the BCHL this season. Army is a great opportunity for Noah, and the Bulldogs organization wishes Noah future success in his hockey and educational journey!”
Mertz’s elevated play has resulted in 5 goals and 25 assists for 30 points in 32 games played so far this season. The Coventry, Rhode Island product is third overall in Defenseman scoring in the BC Hockey League (BCHL) entering this weekend.
The praise for Mertz continued with Bulldogs Head Coach, Ryan Tobler, “The coaching staff and organization are extremely proud and happy for Noah’s commitment to West Point. He came to Blackfalds with a goal of attaining a D1 scholarship, and his hard work has paid off. Army is getting a motivated, smart, and terrific young man. Well done and continued success Noah.”
Al Parada, Bulldogs Director of Player Personnel, added his enthusiasm, “I am very excited and proud of Noah. He came here with a couple of goals in mind. Number 1 to help the team, and number 2 to earn a D1 Scholarship. Army is getting a great player and even better person and teammate who will definitely be an asset to their program at West Point.”
Mertz expressed his gratitude to the Bulldogs organization and his teammates. “I can’t thank the Bulldogs organization enough for their role in growing me as a player and a person. From the management to the coaches and my teammates, I can’t thank them enough!”
Mertz is ready to continue the rest of the season and finish strong. “As for the rest of the season, we have a very special group, and I can’t wait for what the rest of the season has in store for us.”
