The Blackfalds Bulldogs are excited to announce the signing of 2008-born Defenseman Herberts Laugalis for the 2026-2027 season.
Laugalis, 18, who comes to Blackfalds from Liepaja, Latvia, and played for HS Riga in Latvia last season. Laugalis, who stands five-foot-ten and weighs 160 pounds, played in 13 Games for HS Riga 17 last season, where he had 3 goals and 10 assists for a total of 13 points. He also played for HS Riga Men’s Team, where he tallied 0 Goals and 2 Assists in 25 games played. Herberts was also a teammate of current Bulldog, Magnuss Avotins, on the U18 Latvia World Championships team this spring, where they had their best showing ever at the tournament.
Bulldogs Director of Player Personnel, Al Parada, is excited about Laugalis being a Bulldog next season, “I watched all of Team Latvia’s U18 Championship games, and Herberts stood out not only as a great defender, but someone who also has really good skating ability and puck skills. He is the type of player who can come into the BCHL next season and contribute right away. He has a very high hockey IQ and plays the game the right way.”
Laugalis is excited to join the Bulldogs next season, “I am proud to be joining the Bulldogs organization. This coming fall, I will be ready to work, compete, and earn everything! I can’t wait to get the season started. Go Bulldogs!”
